Student activists rally at North Campus

Hundred of National Students Union of India (NSUI) activists and students shouted slogans and rallied outside Delhi University Administration block at North Campus to protest over lack of hostels, unbalanced fee structure, offline admission forms and other related issues.

The protest was led by NSUI national vice president Kumar Raja and attended
by a number of state and national NSUI leaders and office bearers including national secretary Vivekanand Pathak and Delhi state president Vikas Chhikara. Other members from Delhi unit Abhinav Tiwari, Deepak Negi, Karishma Thakur, Varun Khari, Vishal Chaudhary and Manoj Tomar were also part of the protest.

Stressing on their demand, the NSUI members submitted a seven-point memorandum to the University Vice Chancellor. The students’ demand included right to hostel accommodation, free Metro or bus pass for students, post for female candidates in the student union, right for applying improvement/ special chance for DU students, free wi-fi, common fee structure for undergraduate and post graduate students, regularisation for the teachers, close proximity with North and South campus, offline admission forms for undergraduate and post graduate students and examination form submission date to be extended.

The students also conducted a massive signature campaign and took class to class feedback from student on these issues. All the students agreed and supported the issues mentioned above.

However, as the protestors tried to enter into the administrative area, the police tired to block their entrance by spraying them with water cannon. A few students and over 20 NSUI activists were also detained at the Maurice Nagar Police station.
