Pedalling for a clean City

Over 3000 residents of Yelahanka, Allasandra, Judicial Layout and surrounding areas pedalled their way around as part of Bangalore Cycle Day, organised by Yelahanka United Association, Yelahanka United Environment Association (YUVA) and Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) at Yelahanka on Sunday.

Locals along with officials from police department, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and members of various NGOs were on the street. Yelahanka 13th A Main was blocked from 6.30 am to 10.30 am for the event.

Apart from cycling, the participants were seen playing traditional games like Chowka-bara, hopscotch, skipping, lagori, marbles, spinning the top, snake and ladder, gully cricket, badminton, balloon blast, hit the target and chess among others. Choosing the right cycle and free cycle repair camps were also organised.

Jagadeesh Giri, Joint Secretary, YUVA, told Deccan Herald, “The very objective in holding the Cycle Day was to encourage cycling, promote clean and green city and encourage children to indulge in outdoor activities. It was also aimed at bringing people together to conserve Allasandra lake and tell them the importance of environment, ecology and conservation. It was also an agenda to bring the community together.”Members of  IEEE Bengaluru chapter made their presence felt at the event. 

Yelahanka MLA SR Vishwanath, Corporator Muniraju, KSPCB members Kaveriappa and Jayaprakash Alva and BBMP Joint Commissioner (Yelahanka Zone) Sarfarosh Khan and others too took part in the initiative
