The Second Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court here has extended till Tuesday the police custody of Mahesh, the hostel attendant accused of fatally shooting a teenage girl student at Pragathi... The School and PU College in Kadugodi on March 3.

Police produced Mahesh, 38, before the ACMM court as his 10-day police custody ended on Friday. Police submitted to the court that Mahesh is making contradictory statements and is trying to mislead the police. They pleaded with the court for more time to interrogate Mahesh to ascertain a few things. The judge, Chandrashekar, considered the plea and decided to extend the police custody, said the police.

Police continued their efforts to tie loose ends. The suspect was subjected to a polygraph test on Thursday at a private hospital to ascertain the source of the weapon and his motive behind the killing. The report of the test is expected on Monday, said the police.

Police are using every possible means to make him disclose the details. They made sisters, Shailaja and Bharathi, to speak to him and ascertain the truth, but Mahesh scolded them and sent them away. His close friends and classmates in Agumbe were questioned too, but nothing substantial came out from them, added the police.  During the interrogation, it came to light that Mahesh worked with Narayana College in Mandur for two years. Later, he joined Kamadhenu Travels. He quit the job in 2012 and joined Pragathi College, added the police. Mahesh barged into the room of Gauthami at the hostel on the night of March 31 and opened fire at her, killing her on the spot. Later, he made unsuccessful attempt to kill Shirisha. Shirisha suffered injuries and was rushed to hospital. He told the police that he resorted to the act as they often insulted him and objected his parental instinct.
