Hassan City Municipal Corporation (CMC) President Srividya Anand presented a Rs 1.42 crore surplus budget, here, on Tuesday.

She said, the CMC projected a revenue of Rs 72.25 crore, including an opening balance of Rs 12.46 crore for the year 2015-16, and expenditure of Rs 70.83 crore.

She said, Rs 3 crore has been set aside for the construction of a commercial complex, where a theatre will also come up. The CMC has planned to take up works at the dumping yard, at a cost of Rs 2 crore and a zero waste management unit at Rs 25 lakh, besides an allotment of Rs 3.5 crore for footpaths.

Quorum fears
Even though the budget meeting was scheduled for 11 am, elected representatives did not turn up on time, raising fears that the meeting would have to be postponed. While BJP and Congress councillors were present, JD(S) members did not enter the Hall, adding to the confusion. However, the council achieved quorum with the late arrival of two Congress councillors, following which JD(S) councillors too entered the Hall.
