Rahul to appear before Thane court

Last Updated 30 March 2015, 21:43 IST

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi will have to appear before a court in Bhiwandi in Thane district by May 8 over his comments that Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was involved in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.

Magistrate D P Kale had sought Rahul’s presence before the court on or before May 8, the next date of hearing.

Rahul’s lawyers gave an undertaking that he would be present on or before May 8.
He was exempted from appearing in the court for subsequent hearings following an application by his lawyers Narayan Iyer and P K Dhakephalkar.

It may be recalled on March 10, the Bombay High Court dismissed Gandhi’s petition for quashing of a case of defamation which was filed against the Amethi MP for blaming the RSS for the killing of Mahatma Gandhi.
