A four-year-old girl was killed after being hit by a speeding car in north Delhi’s Azadpur on Friday. The girl was returning home after visiting a temple with her two friends, police said.

Victim Laxmi lived with her family at Azadpur. Her family hails from Bihar’s Banka district.
On Friday, she had left home to visit Teliwada Mandir in Azadpur with Chandni and Khushi.
“The incident occurred when they were crossing a road while returning home around 12.30 pm,” said a police officer.

Chandni told police that the car driver was speeding. She also claimed that he did not stop and drove over Laxmi to flee from the spot.

Eyewitnesses failed to note the registration number of the car. Chandni and Khushi rushed to help Laxmi.

“A cycle rickshaw puller’s help was taken to rush Laxmi to St. Stephen’s Hospital. Chandni went with Laxmi and told Khushi to inform Laxmi’s parents at her house,” the officer.
Laxmi succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

A case of rash driving and causing death by negligence has been registered over Chandni’s statement with Bara Hindu Rao police station.

After an initial probe, police suspect that the car was being driven by a minor boy.
Laxmi is survived by her parents and two older siblings.
