Cabbie shot at, he identifies all four culprits

A taxi driver was shot at by four men over personal enmity in east Delhi’s Ghazipur. The accused have been identified, but are yet to be arrested, police said on Wednesday.

Victim Ashok Khatana is a resident of Gharoli Dairy Colony in east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase 3. Police said the attack took place when he was returning home after parking the taxi at his office in Khora village on Tuesday.

“Ashok has identified the attackers as Satish, Sunil, Praveen and Ashok Santram. Ashok claimed his family is involved in a dispute over property with Satish’s family at their village in UP,” said a police officer.

Around 11.30 pm, Ashok was in front of the Delhi Jal Board office when the four men waylaid him on two motorcycles.

They were involved in a heated argument during which Satish opened fire at Ashok.
“He was hit on his right leg,” the officer added. Despite being injured, Ashok tried to flee from the spot. Ashok Santram also opened fire when Ashok was fleeing, but the bullest missed its mark.

As locals began to gather at the spot, they fled on the motorcycles. A call was also made to the police control room and Ashok was taken to hospital.

A case has been filed over Ashok’s statement.
