Bengaluru: Minister for Medical Education Sharan Prakash Patil was at the receiving end as members of the Opposition sought his reply to the Council during the discussion on irregularities at Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS).

Màrithibbe Gowda of JD(S) had pointed out the irregularities while procuring medicines and during recruitment of staff by the Dean of MIMS.

Pointing out that the Deputy Commissioner of Mandya had ordered a probe, following a complaint by a professor, he said the Chief Administrative Officer of Mysore Medical College was entrusted to probe the matter.

Irregularities

“He gave a report, stating that there were irregularities. But, the Principal Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Sivasailam sought an explanation from the Dean of MIMS, who denied all allegations. So, Sivasailam dismissed the complaint,” he said.

Probe

He stated that the complainant again lodged a complaint with Lokayukta, which found the MIMS authorities guilty of irregularities and demanded a probe into it. However, when the Minister said that the Lokayukta is yet to give its report and action will be taken once the report arrives, there was a furore in the Council.  The MLCs took the minister to task saying that he is trying to hush up the matter and in the process, he is misinforming the Council. “Lokayukta report is already available. How is that the minister is saying that the Lokayukta has not submitted the report,” the MLCs from both JD(S) and BJP questioned.

When there were verbal altercations, the Minister assured to look into the matter once again and sought some time. However, the MLCs demanded that the reply of the Minister be withdrawn and             the person responsible for             the reply be suspended immediately.

Further, when the Minister said that he is yet to receive          the report and assured to examine it legally to initiate action, the Opposition entered the well of the House and staged a dharna.
