More roads to come under TenderSURE

Last Updated 19 March 2015, 19:14 IST

The TenderSURE project taken up by the BBMP in a few parts of the City will be extended to some more areas like Jayanagar and Kempegowda Road.

Work on the project has already caused traffic mess on St Marks Road and Cunningham Road. The palike will now take up similar projects on busy Jayanagar 11th main, Kempegowda Road, Nrupathunga Road, Modi Hospital Road and Siddaiah Puranik Road at a cost of Rs 86.46 crore.

Replying to three separate questions by two members T A Saravana and B Ramakrishna, both JD(S), and K Govindaraj, Cong, the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah admitted in the Legislative Council that there will be traffic congestion while the work is on. Once the widening of the footpaths are over, the roads will be free from obstruction for the vehicle users, he added.

The intention of this project is to provide standard lane width for vehicle users. In addition to this, the pedestrians will be provided with wider footpaths, he said.

“As a long term solution to prevent road cutting and interruption to movement of vehicles, the water supply pipelines, the drainage pipes and the aqua ducts for the cables will be laid beneath these footpaths,” he explained. He also said the bus shelters, the street lighting and the cycle lanes will be coming up on the footpaths widened under TenderSURE project.

“Lane discipline of the vehicles will increase and the buses will stop only at the bus bays,” he said.
