Software engineer killed as lorry rams bike

A 23-year-old software engineer was killed and his colleague seriously injured when a lorry rammed into their bike near KSRP 9th Battalion office in Parappana Agrahara on Monday night.

The police have identified the dead as Prathap J Balan, a native of Erode in Tamil Nadu and a resident of Hosa Road. The pillion rider Prasanna Hegde, a resident of Sarjapur, suffered serious injuries. Both of them were working as software engineers with Wipro.

On Monday, around 10.50 pm, they were returning home from work when the accident occurred. Balan who was riding the bike, suffered serious head injuries and died on the spot while Hegade was rushed to a nearby private hospital. He is out of danger. The driver of the lorry fled the spot abandoning the vehicle.

Youth stabbed to death
A youth was stabbed to death by a few assailants on St John’s Road in Bharathi Nagar on Tuesday night.

Madhu, 21, a scrap dealer and a resident of Cox Town in Pulikeshinagar, is the victim. On Monday, around 11.50 pm, he was standing in front of Leman Hotel on St John's Road after having dinner. A gang of five men approached Madhu and picked a quarrel. The gang members exchanged heated words with Madhu, stabbed him and fled the spot.

A few local residents noticed Madhu lying in a pool of blood and rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Red Sanders seized
The Kadugodi police arrested four persons on Tuesday and recovered Red Sanders worth several lakhs of rupees.

Sudhakar, 32, a resident of Tirupathi, S Arun Kumar, 35, T Narayan Swamy, 41, and A Y Narayan, all from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh, are the arrested. They have recovered Red Sanders worth Rs 17.50 lakh and a car, which was used to transport it.

The persons in the vehicle confessed to illegally transporting Red Sanders to Kattigenahalli and they also said a few of their customers reside in the area.

3 gambling dens raided
The RT Nagar police raided three gambling dens in Judge Colony, Dinnur Main Road and Ballari Road on Monday. In total, 73 people have been arrested and Rs 7.23 lakh recovered from them.

Around 5.30 pm, the police raided Classic Member Lounge in Judge Colony and arrested 36 persons for gambling. A sum of Rs 6.40 lakh was recovered from them. In the second raid, 28 persons were arrested and Rs 55,000 was seized from Five Star Recreation Club at Sagar Complex on Dinnur main road. In the third incident, Fantastic-3 located on Ballari Road was also raided and nine persons arrested and Rs 28,000 recovered.
