Baig targeting honest officer, says Horatti

JD(S) MLC and former minister Basavaraj Horatti narrated an incident in the Legislative Council on Tuesday on how acts of politicians can demoralise officers.

Participating in a discussion on the unnatural death of D K Ravi, Horatti said he recently happened to meet Dharwad Deputy Commissioner Rajendra Cholan in a train. “Cholan is a very upright, honest and dedicated officer. He was looking sad that day and I sought to know why?’’ Horatti said. (Dharwad is the home district of Horatti).

Horatti said Cholan told him that while he was doing so much for the district, a minister had written to the chief minister to take action against him. “The minister is Roshan Baig,” Horatti said.

Baig had written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take action against officials of the district administration of Dharwad for not visiting the spot where a passenger plane skidded off the runway in Hubballi airport recently. Baig was one of the passengers on the plane. “There were tears in the officer’s eyes. He was hurt. Why should the deputy commissioner go to the airport. Is he Baig’s in-law? Do you want officers to prostrate before you?” Horatti asked. Baig was not present in the House. And, nobody from the ruling party reacted.
