HDK takes out padayatra to demand water for Ramanagar

Last Updated 16 March 2015, 21:14 IST

Protesting the water scarcity in Ramanagar, JD(S) floor leader in the Legislative Assembly and local MLA H D Kumaraswamy skipped the House session and embarked on an 18-km padayatra (journey by foot) on Monday.

Just when the Assembly was in uproar over the drought and water scarcity in Kolar, Kumaraswamy decided to embark on the padayatra to demand water from Manchinbele reservoir for Ramanagar.

“Who is the district in-charge minister here? Is the government alive or dead? Are the officials working here? If an MLA has to agitate by taking a padayatra for 18 kms, you can as well understand the situation here,” said Kumaraswamy.

But the padayatra from Ramanagar to Manchinbele reservoir, which supplies water to Magadi and some wards of Ramanagar, faced opposition from JD(S) own workers who asked Kumaraswamy to call off the agitation. JD(S) legislator from Magadi, H C Balakrishna, and the party’s workers in that constituency strongly opposed the padayatra.
