A 17-year-old girl on a visit to a public toilet outside her house in Shahbad Dairy was murdered by unidentified assailants on Tuesday morning. Based on prima facie evidence, police have ruled out the possibility of a rape before the murder, but are awaiting the autopsy report for a confirmation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer District) Vikramjit Singh told Deccan Herald that the police should be able to arrest the culprits by Wednesday.

He said police have received vital clues about the assailants, but refused to divulge details.
“The victim was properly clad when she was discovered. There is nothing in the case that would point to a rape. But we will await the autopsy report to be sure,” said the DCP.

Among several persons on police radar is a male friend of the victim, said sources.
He is being questioned and his mobile phone has been seized for checking his call records.
The victim was found by her sister-in-law with her throat slit.

The girl was still breathing but died on her way to hospital.

Her sister-in-law had gone out to the public toilets, a small distance from their home, at about 5.30 am when the victim did not return home more than an hour after leaving home.

A brief search led her to the girl bleeding in a nearby field.

Given the trail of blood and the crime scene, it appeared the girl was first stabbed and then dragged some distance to an isolated spot where she was left to die.

Police were informed and a case of murder registered at Shahbad Dairy police station after the woman succumbed to her injuries.

Some minor injuries on her body indicated she had put up a fight with her assailant, said police.
