JOIN USA 26-year-old newlywed woman committed suicide at her home in Kasturba Nagar in Byatarayanapura on Wednesday.
Police gave her name as Ashta Lakshmi, a native of Pavagada in Tumakuru. Lakshmi, who had married Pawan 10 months ago, went into the bedroom and hanged herself from the ceiling fan in the morning. The incident came to light when Pawan, after finding that his wife was not around, went into the bedroom.
He then called the police as well as his in-laws. Lakshmi’s family has registered a complaint with the police that Pawan and his family members harassed her for dowry and drove her to suicide.
Lakshmi had complained to them about the “harassment”. Her family members suspect Pawan murdered her and made it look like a suicide, the police said, adding that they had detained him and his parents for questioning.
A case has been registered and the police are awaiting the post mortem report to ascertain the cause of death.
