JD(S) to seek public donations to build office

Last Updated 03 March 2015, 20:16 IST

JD(S) national president H D Deve Gowda on Tuesday said he would keep a ‘hundi’ outside his party’s temporary office in Seshadripuram for people to make monetary contributions to build the party head office at the place.

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has given land to the JD(S) on the Krishna Flour Mills premises on Platform Road in Seshadripuram. Gowda claimed that the JD(S) was short of money unlike other political parties. “For construction of our office, I am ready to approach the people and seek donations. I am going to keep a hundi for people to donate money and help the party in constructing the office,” he told reporters here on Tuesday.

Gowda insisted that he didn’t bear any grudge against the government for not allotting land to the JD(S). “Today’s enemy may become tomorrow’s friend. Everything is okay in politics. I’m not agitated at the way the government has behaved in allotting us land,” he said.

The former prime minister said he would try to persuade people who had left the JD(S) for “greener pastures” to return to the party. “I’ve never had any skirmishes with anyone. From PGR Sindhia to B L Shankar to C M Ibrahim, everyone knows how much I have struggled. I will try to bring them back to the party,” he said.
