Kejri, Bassi discuss women safety

Last Updated 28 February 2015, 01:57 IST

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday visited Delhi Police headquarters where Commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi briefed him on the measures that the department has been taking to ensure better security for women in city.

Bassi also made a presentation focusing on the functions, resources and the ongoing schemes of the department.

Bassi had invited Kejriwal for the presentation on the day of his swearing-in ceremony on February 14. AAP’s 67 MLAs, however, had suggested that Bassi be summoned to the Delhi Assembly and answer their questions. But the Kejriwal government rejected the proposal.

On Friday, Kejriwal also interacted with senior police officers to share his ideas. “The meeting lasted for around three hours from 7 pm to 10 pm,” said a police officer.

Special Commissioner of Police (General Administration and Planning and Implementation) Vimla Mehra, Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Deepak Mishra and Special Commissioner (Crime Branch) Taj Hassan were also part of the meeting along with Deputy CM Manish Sisodia.

“Kejriwal mentioned the rape of a Kenyan woman last week. He also complained that local police have not cooperated with victims of crimes or with his party’s MLAs who have tried to highlight them,” a source said, adding Kejriwal has a 10-point plan for women’s safety.

The visit comes a day after Kejriwal met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Kejriwal had asked Singh to ensure that police are more responsive and accountable.
