A 24-year-old man who was absconding after allegedly raping a young woman in west Delhi last year has been arrested. Police said a reward of Rs 20,000 had been declared on his arrest.

Harender Kumar had come in touch with the victim, a 23-year-old student with a private institute, in 2013. Police said investigations revealed the two were known to each other but were not in a relationship.

The two were classmates at one time while pursuing a course in computer science, but the man had taken up a job after that. In October last year, Kumar visited the girl’s home in Dabri area.

On finding the girl alone, he allegedly confined her to the house and raped her. He then threatened her with dire consequences before fleeing.

The girl had approached the local police and registered a case. Medical examination had confirmed rape, said police. A raid at Kumar’s local address revealed he had fled.

Kumar was arrested near AIIMS on Saturday where he had come to meet a friend, said police. He is being interrogated about the laces he had stayed at all these days, said police.
