Be envoys of cleanliness, scouts told

Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim called upon scouts and guides to be ambassadors of cleanliness. He was speaking after giving away the certificates of various district level awards to the scouts, guides and bulbuls at the DC Bungalow at Collector’s Gate in Balmatta in Mangaluru on Sunday.

He said cleanliness should be brought out in action and not be restricted to one’s houses.  He said the district has developed a negative image which needs to be changed. The scouts and guides should fight against social evils. They should be arbitrators of social change by taking part positive social building, he said. 

Scouts and Guides District Commissioner N G Mohan said the national jamboree of scouts and guides will be hosted in the district next year, with the support of district administration. The district unit of scouts and guides has the best strength in the State. State commissioner P G R Sindhia has requested the chief minister to open scout and guides unit in all schools in the state.

At present there are 37,000 scouts and guides in the district and the target is to increase this number to one lakh in the next three years, he added.  Scouts and guides sung patriotic songs on the occasion.

132 cubs from 17 schools received third level cubs award certificates, 200 bulbuls from 25 schools received Suvran Pankh bulbuls award certificates, 171 scouts from 22 schools received third level scouts award certificates, 287 guides from 36 schools received third level guides award certificates 31 Rovers from seven colleges received Pravin Rovers and 51 Rangers from nine colleges received Pravin Rangers.
