Unruly men set fire to bikes

Last Updated 01 February 2015, 18:40 IST

Two motorcycles were set on fire by some unidentified drunk men out to pilfer fuel from bikes and cars in Ramamurthy Nagar shortly after Saturday midnight.

The bikes were parked inside the compound of a building on Ramamurthy Nagar main road. Ritesh Nagaraj, a resident, was walking back home when he saw his bike and another being on fire. He called neighbours for help. The police were also called.

Nagaraj managed to douse the fire with neighbours’ help.  The police reached the spot and collected evidence. According to police, residents suspect the involvement of a gang of young men who keep roaming the neighbourhood.

The youth are often found smoking marijuana and drinking. They also try to pilfer fuel from bikes and cars. When residents confront them, they threaten them, the police added.

The police hope to apprehend the miscreants soon, saying they have obtained some vital clues. They are examining the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the locality.

The police also said they had received many complaints from residents about some gangs of young men roaming the streets, smoking marijuana and doing illegal activities. An officer said the police top brass had reviewed the matter and the culprits would be dealt with stringently. A case has been registered at the Ramamurthy Nagar police station.
