Apply for CET online from today

Last Updated 29 January 2015, 18:54 IST

Soon, an online database of pre-university students who wish to apply for the Common Entrance Test (CET) for entry into professional courses in the State will be created to make the process of applying for the test less tedious.

Besides using it for CET, the details will be used in the process of disbursing scholarships. In the coming year, it will even be linked to higher education, said Sushama Godbole, director, Department of PU Education and executive director, Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). She was addressing a press conference here on Thursday.

The process of submitting applications for CET has gone online for the first time this year. As part of this new mechanism, students are required to create an account with KEA, through which they can submit their forms online.

An official of the National Informatics Centre who is involved in the process said: “When students get admitted to PUC this year, all the details they have submitted to their colleges will be stored in a database. The principals in each college will have to facilitate the entry of these details. When these students go to II PU, their details will still be with them. When they finally apply for the CET in 2017-18, we will already have their details and they will no longer need to create a separate account, but only change their user name and password,” he said.

The details will also be used during the counselling for seats. The KEA is planning to bring in a “systematic change” of recruiting staff to the department to make up for the shortage of permanent staff, Godbole said.

The officer said that changes in the Cadre and Recruitment (C and R) rules are also in the offing. “The department has only nine permanent staff and 40 contract workers,” she said.
