Pilot's Audi snatched at gunpoint, robbers held after dramatic chase

A pilot was waylaid and robbed of his Audi car at gunpoint while he was returning home from Delhi’s Dwarka late on Monday.

The gang of robbers was chased down and arrested by three police control room vans, police said on Wednesday.

Shashank Gupta, a resident of Shakti Nagar in Gurgaon Sector-11, was travelling from Dwarka to Gurgaon at around 11.45 pm. He works as a co-pilot with Alliance India.

“Shashank was approaching Delhi-Gurgaon border when his Audi was rammed on the right side by Ritz car. Members of the gang were also travelling on a bike. He was forced to stop the car,” said Ranvir Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police (Operations).

Two men got off the Ritz car, one of them brandishing a country-made pistol. Two others were on the motorcycle.

The robbers forced Shashank to hand-over his gold chain, mobile phone and cash, and then fled in his own car.

He reported the matter to Dwarka Sector-23 police station. The police sent a message to Central Police Command Room. Soon, the Audi was spotted by PCR van Zebra-94 near west Delhi’s Najafgarh.

“The PCR van was patrolling near Najafgarh drain at Old Kakrola More and chased the car. They tried to intercept the vehicle, but the accused accelerated,” Singh added.

Another PCR van Zebra-101 stationed at Tura Mandi in Najafgarh was also alerted. The two PCR vans succeeded in intercepting the snatched Audi near Rosewood Hospital.

The occupants of the car were overpowered and identified as Uttam Nagar resident Baljit Singh and a juvenile. A country-made pistol and gold chain were  recovered.

On questioning them, police learnt that two of their accomplices had escaped in the Ritz car and a motorcycle. Both vehicles were intercepted at Nangli Sakrawati village in Najafgarh at about 2.30 am on Tuesday by another PCR van.

The Ritz car driver was identified as a juvenile, while a man named Suraj Sharma was riding the motorcycle. The car was found to be robbed from Dwarka and the motorcycle was stolen from west Delhi.
