Samples of asphalt on roads sent to laboratory for testing of quality

Work to be completed by March end, says CMC chief

Deputy Commissioner Dr Trilok Chandra K V has ordered the scientific analysis of the asphalt used on the roads at various parts of the town.

Accompanied by the engineers of the City Municipality and also the executive engineer of the PWD Rajesh, the official undertook an inspection of the work on the asphalt of roads in different wards and also the renovation of the feeder channel to the stormwater drain by the Minor Irrigation Department on Saturday.

He first visited the Palasandra Layout to check the quality of the asphalt used and also if the quantity used is as required. He instructed the government staff members to dig up a small part of the roads and collected the asphalt. On similar lines, the asphalt on the roads at other places was collected as samples. The deputy commissioner ordered the City Municipality staff members to send them all to the laboratory and get a report on the quality of the asphalt. He also inspected the asphalt on roads at Kuvempunagar to test the quality.

Meanwhile, visiting the feeder channel area, Dr Chandra asked for the name of the source of manufacture of the wires installed on the channel walls adjacent to the taluk panchayat office. The contractors said the wires were manufactured in the factories they owned.

City Municipality president B M Mubarak, and members, commissioner Lakshminarayana, PWD executive engineer Rajesh, KMRP assistant executive engineer Hanumantha Raj accompanied the deputy commissioner on the trip in town.

“The City Municipality had been released Rs 22.75 crore under the KMRP project. Under the first phase, asphalt had been provided for an 11-km stretch of road. The second phase involves construction of rainwater tanks, while in the third phase, the rainwater harvesting work are only being developed further,” said Mubarak, adding, “The work should all, however, be completed by March-end. The deputy commissioner has only taken out a trip of the town to ensure pending work will be hastened.”
