Udupi: Udupi-Chikmagalur MP Shobha Karandlaje has said that a high-level inquiry should be conducted into the recent communal flare up in Gangolli. The government should not take the issue lightly assuming that it was a communal violence rather the incident is posing a terror threat.

Speaking to media persons here on Friday, the Parliamentarian said the State government was not serious about the incident. “It is not merely a communal violence rather the fallout of the arrest of terror suspects in Bhatkal.

She said that riots and arson incident reported in the past two days were not the work of local people.

“It is the work of culprits from Bhatkal, who want to divert the attention away from Bhatkal,” she said.

The State government should take measures to estalish peace and order in the region, she added.

Holding the State government responsible for the confusion over Kasturirangan committee report, Karandlaje said the State government should go for scientific survey aiding the natural and cultural landscapes description.

The Supreme Court has given its nod to submit the report of the State government till April 15. She said the government should now go in-depth into the issue.
The two Cabinet sub-committees set up by the government are of no use as both the committees are just concentrating on overt problems.  The committees may not be able to go in-depth into the matter or take up the issue at village level.

She also accused the State government of misleading the public. The report will severely affect 1,576 villages in 40 taluks in 10 districts, she said.

The Central government will release funds for Kendriya Vidyalaya in Alevoor. However, a temporary Vidyalaya will be set up at Malpe, as the construction work for Kendriya Vidyalaya will take another three to four years, she added.
Karandlaje said that the area covering seven junctions in Agumbe ghat area come under Udupi district, while the other seven curve junctions come under Shivamogga district.

The State government has handed over the region coming under Udupi district to the national highway.

The government should also hand over the other part of the Agumbe curve to the national highway, in order to facilitate development works, she added.
