Leopard kills buffalo calf in Khanapur

Last Updated 21 January 2015, 20:55 IST

A buffalo calf was taken away from a farm shed by a leopard, in Dukkurhonda near Vadagaon village in Khanapur taluk on Tuesday.

The carcass of the half eaten calf was found half-a-kilometre away from the shed, Forest officials said.

According to Forest department officials, Ramachandra Vadkar, a farmer and a resident of Jamboti, had tethered four buffaloes including the calf inside a shed on a farm. The leopard attacked the calf as it was an easy prey, officials said.

Expecting the wild cat to return, the Forest personnel have laid a trap by placing a cage with a dog inside it in the village. The villagers, however, claim that it was a tiger attack.
