HC questions choice of roads for upgrading

Last Updated 21 January 2015, 19:03 IST

The High Court on Wednesday asked why the BBMP chose well-laid roads where VIPs reside, for upgrading as model roads.

During the hearing of a suo motu PIL on noise and air pollution due to bad roads in the City, a division bench comprising Justices K L Manjunath and S Sujatha observed that the Palike could have chosen roads near railway station, KR market or any other place, which need immediate attention. The civic agency has selected Cubbon Road, Race Course Road and Sankey Road for upgrading them as model roads to record air and noise pollution.

TaxiForSure moves court

The High Court on Tuesday ordered notice to the State government and the Ministry of Home Affairs in a petition filed by taxi operator TaxiForSure, challenging the ban imposed on app-based cab services.

Serendipity Infolabs Private Limited, the owner of TaxiForSure has contended that the illegal visit, raid and seizure regional transport officials on December 16, 2014, was beyond their jurisdiction. It had claimed that the ultimatum issued by the RTOs to register the City Taxi Service scheme under Motor Vehicle Act, was erroneous in fact and law.

The petitioner has sought directions from the court to quash the advisory issued by the Ministry Home Affairs to the State government asking the latter to ban the operation of the app-based taxi services which do not have necessary permits. Justice Hulavadi G Ramesh ordered notices.
