Shivaiah Tatha (in pic), seer of Marakattu Shivananda Swami Mutt in Yelaburga taluk of Koppal district, succumbed to burn injuries at a private hospital in Bagalkot on Tuesday.
The 80-year-old seer had suffered serious burn injuries while trying rescue a devotee who had set herself ablaze over a dispute pertaining to mutt’s property. Prabhavathi Devi died on the spot while Shivaiah Tatha was rushed to Kumareshwar Hospital in Bagalkot on Monday.
The seer failed to respond to treatment and died at 5:30 am on Tuesday, said the doctors of the hospital.
