The Karnataka Postal Circle will host its first zonal-level philatelic exhibition – Karnapex 2015 – at Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in the City from January 16 to 19.

Special stamps of the 12 renamed districts of the State will be released at the event.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Veena R Srinivasa, Postmaster General, Business Development and Mails, said Karnapex was being held in Bengaluru after seven years.

There will be 600 frames on display with over one lakh stamps, the largest ever in India. To keep the crowd coming, all four days will have different themes, and there will be special releases and cancellations of stamps every day, she said.

Unlike in the previous exhibitions, this time, philatelists and visitors will have the option to open their philatelic account on the spot and also get their personalised ‘My Stamp’ printed.
Veena said that so far, there were 10,000 account holders in the circle.

This had gained popularity in the Indian market, and apart from corporates, many individuals had been availing themselves of this facility.

A competition will also be held, she said. Apart from the 257 participants, there will be 20 special invitees from across the globe showcasing their collections. There are three categories under the competition – junior (up to 14 years), youth (between 14-18) and senior (above 18).

The exhibition will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and former ISRO chairman Dr K Radhakrishnan. Entry will be free and people can view the exhibits and make purchases between 10 am to 6 pm.
