UP Police urged to book rooster

When megastar Amitabh Bachchan sang, “Padosan apni murgi ko rakhna sambhal, mera murga hua hai deewana” (“Take care of your hen my neighbour, my cock is nuts over it”) in the movie “Jadugar”, the metaphoric reference to himself and the film’s heroine was comic.

Cops in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur-Kheri district were taken aback when a couple approached them for registration of a case against their neighbour whose cock allegedly “molested” their hens whenever they came out of their coop.

The cops refused to register a case and sent back the couple, residents of Ishwaripura village in the district. A few days later, however, a clash was reported between the neighbour and the couple over the same issue. The matter again reached the police.

“My neighbour, Khooblal, told me that if I have any complaint against his cock, I should lodge a complaint with the police” Ishwardeen told the officers at Nighasan police station in the district on Saturday.

Ishwardeen said he has six hens and he could not let them out of their coop as Khooblal’s cock would chase them the moment they come out.

The matter has been handed over to beat Sub Inspector Suryamani Yadav, said local police officers. “We cannot lodge a case against birds. We will also investigate if there was something else behind the complaint,” he added.
