Last Updated 11 January 2015, 17:17 IST

Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) professor Appaji Gowda demanded action against Mahesh Chandra Guru, professor of Journalism at the University of Mysore (UoM), for his alleged derogatory remarks against Hindu deity Rama. He said, UoM authorities should initiate action against Mahesh for his remarks.

Mahesh had allegedly used derogatory words against Lord Rama, during a refresher workshop on ‘Media and Human Rights’, held at the UGC-Academic Staff College on January 3. Subsequently, a complaint was registered at Jayalakshmipuram (to be confirmed) police station.

Addressing a press meet, he said, the statements of Mahesh has hurt his religious sentiments. He said, he, along with several other participants of the workshop, had opposed the remarks made by the professor. “However, the professor refused to apologise for his remarks,” he said.

During his address at the workshop, he had said that Lord Rama had violated human rights by banishing his wife to the forests. This view was challenged by some participants, following which Mahesh used derogatory words, he said.
