JOIN USLalbagh Botanical Gardens turned orange on Friday. Oranges from Nagpur, Sikkim, Chikkamagalur, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and other places were all there.
Those who visited the three-day inter-state ‘Horti Sangam 2015’ that began on Friday, were awestruck at the colour, size and taste of the citrus fruit.
Though the mela had stalls selling fruits, vegetables, sweets, spices and dry fruits, the star attraction was the variety of oranges. As many as 60 stalls have been put up by participants from 14 states, selling organically grown products.
Other popular items were chilli honey, ginger honey, apple bear and Sikkim red pepper. People were amused to see the big-sized red, green and yellow peppers.
In great demand
Also popular was saffron from Kashmir and Banaras. Grapes from Maharashtra too were in great demand. Visitors were also seen thronging stalls selling spices from Chikkamagalur and Kerala.
Freshly ground and packed cardamom and black pepper powder could be smelt from a distance. Amla pickles and jams too were crowd pullers. Radha M, a resident of Jayanagar and a regular walker at the Lalbagh said: “I was not prepared for the mela. Had I known that there would be so many things to buy, I would have come prepared with more bags and money.”
Same was the case with Arpita N, a resident of Wilson Garden. “I came here for a walk and was thrilled to see so many things on sale. Though the rates are a little high, I am sure the quality will be good. I will be back tomorrow.”
