Two arrested for carrying Rs 39.5 lakh illegally

Market police have arrested two persons for carrying Rs 39.5 lakh in cash without valid documents near Kapileshwar Tank on SPM Road here in the early hours Tuesday.

Police revealed the names of arrested as Narendra Bavarlal and Mukesh Sagar, both natives of Churu district in Rajasthan and currently residing on a rented premises at Annugovind Apartment at Shastrinagar in the city.

Police Commissioner S Ravi told reporters that the accused were carrying Rs 39,50,200 in three bags on a scooter. Following a tip-off, the Market police station PI Ramesh Gokak and staff detained the accused, on grounds of suspicion, near Kapileshwar Tank on the SPM Road.

During interrogation, the police found that currency notes of the denomination of Rs 500, Rs 100 and Rs 50, worth Rs 39.5 lakh, were stashed in three bags. Police also found currency note counting machine and a stapler in one of the bags.

The accused didn’t disclose the source and destination of the cash and they didn’t have any valid record or document to support their act. Both Narendra Bavarlal and Mukesh Sagar have been arrested for further investigations, he said.

All angles, including trafficking of women as it is the marriage season, would be looked into, the police commissioner informed.

  He said, police inspector Gokak, staff members S M Shinde, C J Channappagol, B S Bastwad, Vithal Madar and K V Charlingmath would be suitably rewarded.
