The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has taken up a slew of infotech measures, including a web portal to air public grievances related to civic issues.

The portal bbmp.sahaaya.in, to be operational from Wednesday, will enable the citizens to lodge the complaint, view the complaint, take a look at civic woes ward-wise, various online citizen services.

“Another similar website bbmp.swmsahaaya.in will also be launched on the same day. The SWM Sahaaya, as the name suggests, will look into the issues pertaining to Solid Waste Management (SWM). A call centre, manned by eight people, will monitor the websites,” said BBMP IT Advisor, T Sheshadri at a press conference on Monday.

The complaint received online will be routed to the appropriate department and the department coordinators will assign the task to the worker/official concerned. Issues that are trivial in nature will be rejected.

In addition to it, Mayor Shanthakumari has also launched her Twitter account MAYOR_BANGALORE and Facebook with account user name: Worshipful Mayor – BBMP to reach out to the public. The social media platforms will not only provide information on various BBMP schemes and initiatives, they will also be used for seeking public opinion, suggestions and complaints.

To ensure transparency in the works taken up by Palike, an online system detailing cost of BBMP works, payments made to contractors, their names and other transactions, will be launched on December 24, the Mayor added.

Officials from the BBMP IT department said that SMS alerts will go to the contractors/ suppliers on approval of works by the commissioner and the chief accounts officer (CAO) with the approval details.

“Steps will be taken to publish the details of everyday payment releases in BBMP website for better transparency soon," the officials maintained.
Mayor N Shanthakumari said that a photo exhibition on the life of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be held at Rajkumar Glass House on Wednesday. Audio-visual presentation on former PM will be made during the one-day exhibition, she added.
