“If you succeed in discovering the existence of God in the service of poor, you succeed in finding God in temples too,” said Mangalore Diocese Bishop Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza. He was speaking at the Christmas celebrations with the heads of various organisations, organised by Catholic Sabha, at Bishop’s House in Mangaluru on Friday.

The Bishop said that Jesus came as the messenger of God to spread the message of love.
He was born poor and served poor, to show that everyone owes a responsiblity towards society and to make people realise that we should console the people who are in sorrow.
Peace does not only mean absence of war. It is an aftereffect of humanitarian service.

When poor people find peace and happiness in their lives, we witness harmony, brotherhood, peace and solidarity in society.

On December 22, Catholic Sabha will distribute 24 homes to poor families, the Bishop said.

The Bishop expressed his deep concern over increasing violence and said that the terror incident in Peshavar was unfortunate. He hoped for a world free of cruelty.
Mangalore City Corporation Mayor Mahabala Marla said that the festival of Christmas suggests us to fulfill our obligations towards society. One should do good to all creatures to create a harmonious environment.

SCDCC Bank Chairman M N Rajendra Kumar said that the message of Jesus Christ is very pertinent in today’s scenario. We should live and let live others, he said and added that Christmas is a national festival.

Al Badriya Educational Institutions (Katipalla) President Johra Abbas said that nationalism is our true identity. “We, being the citizens of India, should free ourselves from the barriers of caste and creed. Even Mahathma Gandhi was inspired by Jesus,” she said and expressed her concern over communalism misleading the youth.

Mangalore Diocese Vicar General Rev Fr Dennis Moras Prabhu, Mangaluru Diocese Secretary and advocate M P Noronha and Catholic Sabha office bearer Susheel Noronha among others were present on the dais.
