JOIN USAfter the worst ever poll debacle in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) led by M Karunanidhi in Tamil Nadu on Friday began revamping the party by conducting fresh district secretary polls.
The election came against the backdrop of DMK high command’s decision to suspend more than 30 district secretaries as a part of re-structuring the party before the 2016 Assembly polls.
“Election were held at the party headquarters for the post of ten district secretaries. Rest will be held in the coming days,” a senior DMK leader said.
In the recent past, the party also appointed a committee, headed by a two-member team comprising former school education minister Thangam Thennarasu and senior leader Kalasapakkam Thiruvengadam, who submitted a report on the reasons for the poll debacle.
After electing district secretaries, DMK is planning to conduct its general council and party’s executive committee meeting in the first week of January. During the meeting, the party is also planned to elect state office bearers.
In addition, DMK chief M Karunanidhi’s son and party treasurer M K Stalin also unveiled his internet initiative for better connectivity with cadres and party functionaries.
The website also connects various social media networks, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ enabling the visitors to be informed of the movements and activities of the Stalin and other party senior leaders.
At present, Stalin is engaged in asking the youth wing functionaries to project the party in the social media and urged them to give their prompt reply to critics.
Following its rout in the general elections, the DMK based on the recommendations of a committee also decided to carry out internal restructuring by increasing the number of district units to 65.
The DMK drew blank in all the 40 constituencies (39 in Tamil Nadu and one in Puducherry) in the Parliamentary elections.
