Piety marks Sahasrarjuna Maharaja Jayanthi

The Sri Rajarajeshwara Sahasrarjuna Maharaja Jayanthi Samithi celebrated Sri Sahasrarjuna Maharaja Jayanthi Mahotsava in the City on Sunday.

As part of the celebrations, a procession that saw the participation of over 500 people was taken out from the Tollgate near Vijayanagar to the Bunts’ Sangha.
The devotees were seen carrying offerings for the deity. The procession was followed by various rituals.

The committee had a couple of demands to place before Vijayanagar MLA M Krishnappa, who spoke at the event. He said, “In most events like these, people ask us for grants and lands. However, they do not follow up on the same.”

He assured the committee that if they gave a written application, the government would certainly help.

‘Will ensure it is done’

“I will request the government to grant 10 acres of land near Kengeri for setting up a premises of your own. Since I am told that the construction of a building has been left incomplete due to lack of funds, I will ensure it is done with my own money,” Krishnappa said.

Praising the community for its social contribution, Krishnappa said, “The contribution of industrialist Hari L Khoday is remarkable. He has ensured that the Venugopala Swami temple which is submerged in the KRS backwaters is restored.”

Every year, Sri Rajarajeshwara Sahasrarjuna Maharaja Jayanthi Samithi honours achievers in various field including sports and education, according to D Gangadhar Sa, convenor of the committee. “The event is also a fundraiser for social work,” he added.

Games Carnival 2014

On November 2, Games Carnival 2014 was conducted for adults and children at the Central College Cricket Grounds.

Awards were given away to winners at the event that was held here on Sunday.
As part of its social responsibility events, the Somavamsha Sahasrarjuna Kshatriya Co-Operative Society Limited, in association with the Karnataka Cancer Society, organised a free cancer screening camp in November end. A health check-up camp was also organised.
