Aditya, Saurabh in final

Top seed Saurabh Verma of ONGC will face BPCL’s Aditya Prakash in the men’s singles final of the 36th PSPSB inter-unit badminton championships on Sunday.

In the women’s final, P C Thulasi will face Rituparna Das in all-ONGC clash.
In the semifinals on Saturday, Saurabh beat fourth seed Sai Praneth of ONGC 21-14, 21-19 in a match that lasted for over 40 minutes while Aditya knocked out  Guru Sai Dutt of BPCL 15-21, 21-16, 21-13.

Starting the game with the right intent, Saurabh went on to lead 7-0 before Sai got a toehold on the scoreboard.

Backed by his superior court movement, Saurabh then raced to a commanding 17- 11 lead before wrapping up the game 21-14.

In the second game, it was Sai who had the initial momentum as he led 10-2 lead, but the battle was far from over as Saurabh, a product of the Gopichand Badminton Academy, rallied to seal the match 21-19. In the women’s section, top seed Thulasi romped into the finals as she handed Tanvi Lad of IOCL a 21-13, 21-14 drubbing.

Starting the game with a cautious approach, the players level-pegged till 11-11 before Thulasi shifted gears to win the game 21-13. Thulasi maintained the momentum to pocket the second game 21-14.

In the other semifinal, Rituparna defeated Arundhati Pantawane of ONGC 21-8, 21-9.
