DKS behind Gorur garbage plant, says Kumaraswamy

Janata Dal (Secular) State president H D Kumaraswamy has alleged that Energy Minister D K Shivakumar was behind the plan for setting up a waste treatment plant at Gorur village in Magadi taluk.

“Energy Minister D K Shivakumar is ensuring implementation of the project for his personal interest. He has conspired to grab lands owned by farmers. He could implement the project at Kanakapura if he is so committed for the project,” Kumaraswamy said on Saturday. He was addressing a protest rally organised by villagers at Solur handpost.

He urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to convene an all- party meeting before start of the Assembly session to take a suitable decision on setting up of the treatment plant, in view of vehement protests by by the villagers. The former chief minister acme down heavily on police caning women, seers and children, who were staging a protest.

Meanwhile, Bandemutt seer Basavalinga Swami and others lodged a complaint with Solur police seeking action against Ramanagar Deputy Commissioner F R Jamadar and SP Dr Chandragupta for atrocities on protesting farmers.

More than 5,000 farmers participated in the rally blocking the National Highway for more than two hours affecting vehicular movement. Additional forces were deployed as a precautionary measure.
