Non execution of housing schemes irks Minister

The progress of works of housing schemes in Mandya district, irked Housing and district in-charge minister, Ambarish, here on Saturday.

Speaking at the KDP meeting, he said that even though 4,000 houses have been sanctioned for the district, under schemes of the department, only about 300 houses have been completed. “In order to avoid such delays, the Housing department is thinking of having the Housing Board construct the houses,” he said.

Houses to siteless

Managing Director of Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation, Jagadish said that progress of constructing houses were hit, as houses were sanctioned to individuals who did not own any sites. Now, houses are being allotted only after a land has been identified and tagged by GPS systems, he said.

He added that there were instructions to sanction houses to only those individuals who have land. There is also a provision to use funds for the repair of houses of economically backward sections. Funds allotted to buy land for the same has also been increased, he said.

MP C S Puttaraju complained that even though Rs 25 lakh had been sanctioned for the construction of a school at T S Chathra four years ago, the funds were yet to be utilised. The department concerned should take up the works soon, he said.

He said that lakes in Dudda and Basaralu hobli were not being filled using water from Hemavathy river. Steps should be taken immediately to fill the lakes and avoid inconvenience to the residents of the region.
