BJP threatens stir over taluks issue

Last Updated 22 November 2014, 21:02 IST

Former Chief Minister  Jagadish Shettar has warned of intensifying the protest against the State government, if it fails to announce the formation of 43 taluks in the state, before December 9.

The previous BJP government had announced the formation of 43 taluks in the State and had earmarked Rs two crore to each taluk. However, the Congress government has dropped the proposal on the formation of taluks.

Addressing a protest in front of Tahsildar's office on Friday, he challenged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to reveal what happened to Rs 66 crore earmarked for new taluks.
“The State government has taken away the benefit of Anna Bhagya scheme by cancelling 32 lakh BPL ration cards in the State. The government has scrapped 'Suvarna grama', 'namma grama namma rasthe' and free bicycle schemes initiated by the BJP government. Internal conflict in the Congress has affected the administration,” he said.

“The illegal transportation of sand is being carried out unabated. The illegal transportation of sand is incurring loss to the state exchequer,” former CM said.

Admitting that the proposal on Niddodi ultra mega power project was submitted to the Central government during his tenure, Shettar said that when there was opposition for the setting up of thermal power project at Koodligi, people were taken to confidence and the project was implemented.

But, the present government is imposing Niddodi project on the  people. MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary said that Minister Abhayachandra Jain who had demanded the formation of Moodbidri taluk has become the minister and is not raising the issue on the formation of taluks.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, BJP district unit President Prathap Simha Nayak, Umanath Kotian, Padmanabha Kottari, Jagadish Adhikari and others were present on the occasion.
