Two men have been arrested after a 19-year-old girl committed suicide at her house in west Delhi’s Naraina on Thursday. She took the extreme step allegedly over being harassed by a neighbour to marry him, police said.

The girl was a class 12 student of Sarvodaya Kanya Vidhyalaya on central Delhi’s Pusa Road. She had also filed a case of molestation against the main accused on Tuesday.
Police said she was depressed over the issue and was found hanging from a ceiling fan on Thursday. A suicide note was also found in the house in which she named Subhash Yadav, his father Ram Kishore Yadav and friend Anil.

“They mentally harassed me and humiliated me. Sorry, mummy and papa, I couldn’t fulfil your dreams,” the suicide note read.

It is claimed that Subhash and Anil used to regularly harass her when she went to school. Subhash wanted to marry her and often followed her.

On Tuesday, the girl had even filed a molestation case against Subhash. It was alleged that Subhash molested her in her house on Monday.

When she turned down his marriage proposal, he allegedly tried to strangle her with the cord of her mobile phone. Subhash was arrested and sent to Tihar Jail on Tuesday.

After Subhash’s arrest, Ram Kishore and Anil were allegedly pressuring the girl and her family members to withdraw the case.

On Thursday, the girl went to school and spoke about the harassment to her teachers, who informed her parents. When the parents reached the school, the girl had left for home.

“At home, the girl’s room was found bolted from inside. They broke open the door and found her hanging,” said a police officer.

Ram Kishore and Anil were arrested on Friday in a separate case of abetment to suicide under Indian Penal Code.
