CBI image at all-time low

Last Updated 20 November 2014, 19:40 IST

Never in the past the CBI had hit such a low wherein the conduct of its own director had come under cloud over the premier agency’s probe involving high profile cases.

CBI officials don’t recall a shameful incident parallel to Director Ranjit Sinha’s indictment by Supreme Court on Thursday while hearing a petition in the 2G case.

The apex court asked Sinha to recuse himself from supervising the 2G scam finding prima facie evidence in charges that he was trying to help the accused in the spectrum allotment case.

Former CBI director R K Raghvan, who enjoyed good reputation while in service, agreed that he should not have met the accused in the case. And, if at all he did, it should have been in the presence of other officers, he added.

“This observation is not on the CBI but on the conduct of an individual,” he commented.
