Last Updated 17 November 2014, 20:03 IST

A pre-university student, who had consumed pesticide last Thursday reportedly after she failed to do well in a college exam, died at a hospital on Monday.

She consumed the poisonous substance from a bottle kept in her home by a relative who runs pesticide business.

The victim Hemalatha was the daughter of Venkatesh, a resident of Lakshmipura. She was rushed to the hospital on November 13, but she failed to respond to the treatment and died early on Monday morning, the police said.

Hemalatha returned home after appearing for an examination on November 13 and informed her mother that she had not performed well. She was aspiring to become a chartered accountant, but was disappointed as she felt she could not realise her dream due to her poor performance in the exam, the police said.

She told her mother she would change her clothes and emerged from the room minutes later telling her she had consumed “something”. She was rushed to hospital, the police said.

The victim’s relative, who is into pesticide business, would keep bottles containing pesticide in Venkatesh’s home.

The police suspect she might have consumed pesticide. There was no death note, they added.

Woman found murdered

A 45-year-old woman was found murdered near the Indo-Danish Dairy Development Farm on Hesaraghatta Main Road on Monday.

Soladevanahalli police said Siddagangamma, from Dyasenahalli, was bludgeoned to death by unidentified men. A 50-gm gold chain she had worn was missing, her family members told the police.

Siddagangamma used to graze her livestock near the dairy farm. Around Monday noon, she was seen talking to a man. She told some locals that the man was her relative. She was found lying in a pool of blood around 1.15 pm with grievous injuries on the back of her head. The relatives and family will be questioned, police said.
