Gautam returns in style

Karnataka Ranji player CM Gautam returned to action after a long hiatus with a century for KSCA XI in a four-day practice match against Cricket Association of Bengal.

In a match marred by persistent rains, both teams could complete just one low-scoring innings each with the hosts claiming the innings honours. Batting first, CAB declared their innings at 250 for eight in 104.4 overs with not a single fifty from their batsmen. Koushik G was the top-scorer with 49.

KSCA, in reply, managed to post 291 all out in 81.1 overs with Gautam, who was playing his first competitive game after undergoing an operation on his left knee in South Africa, slamming an even 100 before retiring.       

D Nischal (58) and Naveen MG (59) chipped in with useful knocks as the home team took 41-run lead. CAB were 35 for two in their second essay when the match was called off.

Brief scores: Cricket Association of Bengal: 250/8 decl. in 104.4 overs (Koushik G 49, Piranha J 43, Damian Das 33, Priyank 37 n.o.; Naveen MG 2-40, Suchith J 2-44) and 35/2 in 15.4 overs drew KSCA XI: 291 all out in 81.1 overs (Nischal D 58, CM Gautam 100 retd, Naveen MG 59; Amit 2-31, Sreyansh 2-60).
