The North Corporation decided on Monday to remove advertisements and hoardings from waterless urinal falling under its jurisdiction.

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has taken over the waterless toilets which were first introduced in 2010.

Commissioner of the North Corporation Praveen Kumar Gupta with Chairman Ward Committee Rajesh Bhatia and area councillor Poornima Vidhyarthi inspected Karol Bagh area on Monday.

He visited Guru Ravi Dass Marg and took stock of the waterless urinals. He directed officials to remove advertisements form such toilets since they are now taken over by the civic agency.

Till now these urinals were given to private players on build, maintain and operate basis. Contractors were asked to make money from the advertisements they were allowed to put on these sites and in turn were responsible for their upkeep.

No maintenance

But they turned a blind eye towards the maintenance of these toilets. So the corporations decided to take over the waterless urinals spread across the city.

During the inspection, he also asked officials of Department of Environment Management Services to repair dhalaos (streetside dump) at military road and near zakhira flyover. “Officials should put up a gate in front of dhalaos so that the garbage don’t litter around the area,” he said.

The commissioner also visited municipal schools at Ahata Thakur Dass and Prabhat Road. He asked officials to have an adequate arrangement of drinking water on school premises.

“There should be proper cleaning of toilets so that students do not face any inconvenience,” he added. He directed the officials to repair the roof of school at Prabhat Road.
