A three-year-old boy was electrocuted at an under-construction building in BCC Layout near Attiguppe in Chandra Layout police limits on Sunday.

The victim was identified as Banni Basavaraj, the second son of Jagadish and Parvathi, said the police.

The incident occurred when Basavaraj was playing near the under-construction building on 3rd Cross in BCC Layout at around 4 pm. Jayachandra Reddy owns the building.
Jagadish and Parvathi, both natives of Raichur, were employed as construction labourers six months ago. They stay at a makeshift shed in the under-construction-building, said the police.

The carpenters, who had taken power connection to cut wooden pieces from an electric plug in the security guard’s shed, did not disconnect power before leaving for the day. While playing, Basavaraj reportedly stepped on the wire and was electrocuted, police said. As Banni screamed for help, Parvathi rushed outside, but he had died before she could reach him. A case of negligence has been registered against the carpenters and Reddy, added the police.
