As many as 11 two-wheelers were allegedly set ablaze by anti-social elements in Annasandrapalya under the HAL police limits early Saturday morning.

The complainant, a resident of Annasandrapalya and a private company employee who wished not to be named, told the police he had parked his motorbike in front of his house at around 1.30 am and had gone in. Ten minutes later, he heard some noise outside and came out only to find nearly a dozen bikes parked outside set on fire. He also noticed some youths fleeing the spot, and alerted the neighbours before calling the fire personnel.

Two fire tenders rushed to the spot along with the police and doused the blaze. Nine bikes were completely burnt and two partially, the police said.

A senior police officer said, “The bikes were parked in front of a building owned by Nagaraj Reddy. A few houses in the building have been rented out to software engineers and their bikes parked in front of the gate were gutted. The police said unidentified men often stole petrol from vehicles in the area at night. A case was registered and four suspects picked up for questioning, the police added.

Several residents of the area staged a protest near the HAL police station on Saturday morning demanding strict action against the miscreants.

Former MLA Nandish Reddy, who was part of the protest, said, “There more than two lakh people living in this area. But there is only one police station. We request the government to either increase the strength in the police station or set up another police station.”
