Four persons were sentenced to life imprisonment by a Fast Track Court in a kidnap and murder case of an engineering student, on Friday.
The convicted are Varish, a native of Bihar, Rohith, 28, a native of Jharkhand, Shivani Thakur, a bar dance and Preethi Raj, both natives of Bihar.
Police said the accused had kidnapped and murdered Tushar, a native of Bihar, and an engineering student in SKIT College in Chikkabanavara on January 14, 2011. The court has also levied a fine of Rs 5,000 on each.
A compensation of Rs 45,000 was also awarded to the victim’s family. Preethi Raj, along with her friend Shivani Thakur, boyfriend Rohith and Varish, a common friend hatched a plan to kidnap Tushar, after knowing that he was rich, to make a fast buck. On January 14, 2011 they took Tushar to Varish’s house in Attur Layout for partying.
Later, they strangulated him. After dumping his body in the eucalyptus groove near Kempanahalli, they called Tushar’s father Pramod demanding Rs 10 lakh. Pramod informed the police about the call. Amruthahalli police who had found Tushar’s body analysed his call records and zeroed in on the four accused.
