NE woman alleges rape by African

A 24-year-old woman from Nagaland has alleged that she was raped on the pretext of marriage by a South African.The accused was arrested after she approached Mukherjee Nagar police station, police said on Monday.

She told police that she was working as a beautician in Bangalore when she came in contact with the accused. Police said the accused, identified as 34-year-old Nileango, had claimed to be a student of Delhi University.

“They became friends on a social networking website after which the accused asked the woman to come to the capital for better job opportunities,” said a police officer. Nileango had also promised to help her get a job.

In her statement to police, she claimed that she came to the capital around four months ago. She was living with Nileango in a rented house at Mukherjee Nagar. It is alleged that Nileango later developed physical relation promising that he will marry her.

During the period, she got pregnant and it is claimed that Nileango forced her to undergo an abortion.After the procedure, she asked Nileango to marry her, but he refused. Over Nileango’s continuous refusal, she had recently approached Burari police station in north Delhi.

They attended counseling sessions and reached a compromise.The couple, however, continued to have heated arguments on which the woman decided to approach Mukherjee Nagar police station. Nileango was arrested after a case under sections 376 (rape) and 313 (causing miscarriage without woman’s consent) of the Indian Penal Code was registered.
