JOIN USRain continued to cause havoc in the State, claiming the life of a 35-year-old woman in Chamarajanagar.
Sujatha, a resident of Devanga 1st street, died after the mud wall in front of her house came crashing down on her on Monday morning. The wall had weakened due to the rain on Sunday night.
Three houses collapsed due to rain in and around Chandakavadi hobli of the taluk.
Onion, pomegranate, jowar and groundnut crops were damaged in Chitradurga district, following heavy rain in the last three days. A total of 186 houses have been damaged in the district due to the showers.
Water bodies are brimming in Arsikere taluk of Hassan district, following the copious downpour. The district had faced a drought-like situation in the past few years. Farmers growing ragi and tur dal are a happy lot now, following the rain.
Horticulture, agriculture crops were destroyed and houses collapsed following heavy rains in Davangere district in the last couple of days. Five houses partially collapsed at Santhebennur in Channagiri taluk. There was good rainfall in the Hirehalla region of the taluk, the major catchment area of the Sulekere tank, the second largest in Asia.
Arecanut and other plantation crops were damaged due to the heavy rains. The Haridravathi stream near Channagiri town and Tumbari stream near Devarahalli are overflowing.
Channagiri tahsildar G S Prasannakumar said that five cm of rain was recorded in Channagiri and Santhebennur towns on Sunday. Drainage water entered several houses in the Scheduled Castes colony in Hirekogular village. Five houses in Santhebennur and one house in Malahal village were damaged in Channagiri taluk.
Cotton growers in various villages of Santhebennur hobli were affected by rains when their crop had reached the harvesting stage. Farmers fear that the quality of cotton crop will be affected by the rains. Shikaripur, Sagar and some parts of Sorab in Shimoga district received heavy rain for nearly three hours from 3 pm, throwing normal life out of gear.
Following the heavy rain in Shikaripur, vehicular movement on Shimoga Road was disrupted for a short period as drains were flooded. Motorists had a tough time riding on the waterlogged road. Shimoga, Hosanagar, Bhadravathi and Thirthahalli received moderate rain throughout the day.
