JOIN USSuspended former vice chancellor of Karnatak University, H B Walikar, arrested by the Lokayukta police on corruption charges recently, was shifted to Jayadeva Hospital in Bangalore from the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Hubli, on Monday evening.
Lokayukta Police Superintendent K Parashuram said Walikar was being taken to Jayadeva Hospital under police escort.
KIMS doctors had recommended to the Lokayukta police in Dharwad to shift Walikar to Jayadeva Hospital as he had developed health complications. KIMS did not have the required facilities to treat him, the doctors said.
The Lokayukta police had arrested Walikar and three other officials of Karnatak University on October 20 under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Walikar, after being examined by doctors at the district civil hospital, was sent to KIMS in Hubli, where he was treated for the past one week.
The third additional district judge, while denying bail to Walikar, had granted conditional bail to three officials who were under arrest. The bail applications of six others named in the Lokayukta police FIR will come up for hearing on Tuesday at the third additional district court.
Professors S T Bagalkoti, B M Ratnakar, C Rajashekhar and Syndicate members Shankargouda Patil, N R Balikai and Lakshman K Beeragoudar have applied for anticipatory bail, as their names figure in the list of accused in the complaint filed by Karnatak University Registrar (administration) Chandrama Kanagali before the Lokayukta police.
